1) The location – It is good to keep in mind that the first thing you need to think about is the room. An ideal nursery is located in a place that is away from too much traffic to avoid disturbing the baby during sleeping and resting periods. On the other hand, it will also keep you more tranquil if the room is located within easy hearing distance around the home. Choose a space that is possibly located near your bedroom so you can easily reach it when you hear the child cry out.

2) The safety – This is one of the most important things to check. When painting the room, choose paints with low or zero VOC content as it is linked to various health problems. When choosing furniture, try to find ones that don’t have sharp edges where your growing child might get hurt. Keep curtain rods away from cribs and beds as these are safety hazards. Beds should be situated away from windows to prevent them from climbing out. Floor boards should be repaired or changed if splinters are present. Electrical cords and outlets shouldn’t be easily accessible. Small toys and objects should be kept out of the room as these are choking hazards.

3) The theme – Choosing the theme is easy once you know the gender of your baby. For boys, masculine colors like blue will do well while for girls, pinks and yellows will be perfect. Choose pastel shades to give the room a soft and comfortable atmosphere. You can also decide to choose animated characters typical for each gender such as cartoons and fairytale themes. It would also be cool to set up the room with nature as the central theme. Otherwise, you can opt for neutral colors so it will be easier to mix and match colors.

4) The furniture – It is important to know the size of the room before you start buying furniture. Shy away from pieces that are too large and will take up all the space. Also avoid cramming a lot of unnecessary objects in the area to avoid clutter or a sense of tight space. Place only essential items such as the crib, a side table, a mom chair, changing table and storage furniture. Gemma from My Mills Baby has some smart storage ideas for the nursery. Take a look!

When it comes to setting up a nursery, it need not be a difficult feat to accomplish. Start with the essentials and work your way to making it the perfect haven for both your child and you as parents.
