When I was younger I used to work in care homes for the elderly. It was a lovely job and it helped me to earn money when I was on holiday from university. I loved working with such interesting people who had so many stories to tell! I could spend ages listening to their adventures and loved hearing tales of times gone by.

There was a daycare room at the home and people would come to visit for the day. Some of our residents would also go to daycare which was a nice change for them! They would have lunch there and play games.

I used to go to daycare with them some days and I sometimes got to be the bingo caller! This was so much fun! I wasn’t sure of all the official calls so we used to make some of them up. One lady came up with, ‘Number 3, I need a wee!’ 🙂 As we weren’t professionals we could take our time calling the numbers. This meant that we could have a lot of fun. If ever a number ended in a 4 we used to chant, ‘There’s somebody at the door,’ like they did in The Pink Windmill.

Also, if a number ended in a 2 we would ask someone in the kitchen to make a brew. 🙂 it was lots of fun!

I still have a soft spot for bingo and we like to go and play occassionally. I also like to play online. There are some great no deposit bingo sites. The problem is that these games of bingo move so quickly! There is no time for funny bingo calls. Maybe I should set up a bingo hall where the emphasis is on slow silly games. It might not give much chance to win money though.

Apparently my husband used to call bingo at a church hall and this led to him becoming a Butlins Red coat in his younger days. I remember playing at community centres and at seaside amusements. My fave was always “44 – droopy drawers” Love some of your silly numbers and intend to use them!
