Bob and I love baking and spending time in the kitchen. When I was asked if we would like to review some Make-a-Bar Chocolate Factory creative kits I could already see how much fun we were going to have!
What impressed me most about this kit is how you melt the chelate. We have had lots of chocolate fun before but when it comes to melting it, I do that on the hob whilst Bob has to sit and wait.
With this kit she could be involved in the whole process! The packets of chocolate chips melt in a bowl of warm water. The theory is, ‘If it’s too hot to touch it’s too hot for the chocolate’.
The chocolate melted quite quickly. Whilst it was melting we chose which design we were going to make and taped it to the tray. When the chocolate was ready you just snip the corner off the foil packet and get creating.
Each bar comes with a random selection of designs and you can design your own using the template maker at the Make-a-Bar website.
There are different difficulty levels for your bar design and some of them looked really tricky! Bob is only just 4 so I wasn’t sure if she would be able to do this activity without support. I couldn’t convince her to do an easy design as she fell in love with the hedgehog.
She did a fabulous job though and she thoroughly enjoy drawing with the chocolate.
I attempted to do one of the hardest designs to see how older children would get on. 😉 If you only snip a small hole in the packet the chocolate is easy to control. I managed to draw the outline quite easily.
As I started to fill in the white and milk chocolate bits I worried that things were going wrong. When my bar went in the fridge I was unsure what to expect and I thought it might look nothing like the design.
After a quick bath (about 30 minutes) our bars was ready and I was intrigued to see what they looked like.
When I saw the finished result I was impressed! If you use the chocolate in the correct order it doesn’t matter if you make mistakes later on as the outline is already in place and that will be visible from the top of your bar.
Bob’s looked brilliant! I can definitely see the outline of the hedgehog!
The chocolate tasted delicious too! I didn’t get to try the leftover melted chocolate as I wasn’t quick enough. 🙂
When the bars were ready we all got to try some and they tasted yummy! I wasn’t surprised to hear that they are 100% Belgian chocolate.
This is such a fun activity and it is great for children as there is no need for pans of boiling water! Bob keeps asking when we are going to open the chocolate factory again. I have a feeling it will be quite soon. 🙂
Make-a-bar Chocolate Factory have given me two kits to give away to one lucky reader. Each kit allows you to make one bar. There are many ways to enter using the Rafflecopter below. Good luck!
