We all like to think our home looks just right, but in truth there are times when we could do more to give it a new lease of life. Any house or flat in which young children live, eat, sleep and play is bound to be messier and more chaotic than others, but that doesn’t mean the place should be left to slowly decline. Here are some ideas.

A dab of paint here, a dab of paint there

Every parent knows how tiring it can be to have young children, and that it leaves us little time to focus on home décor issues. That being said, there are some quick wins to be gained when you apply a coat of paint here and there, because it gives any part of the house a fresher look. And all without making too much of an effort.

Never underestimate the wow factor

Some people like to make subtle improvements to the home over a period of time, and there is nothing wrong with that. There are times, however, when you can add a glitzy flourish to a room in no time at all. A large, ornamental mirror in the hallway is a good idea, as is the addition of stencilling in just about any room in the house.

Add to the beauty and subtract from outside noise at the same time

There are an awful lot of people in the UK who live close to airports, railway lines and major roads, and for them the constant din of outside noise can be more than a little irritating. Having gorgeous new windows fitted will add to the beauty of any room, while at the same time the double glazing will help to reduce the decibel level.

Give your home the holiday look and make it extra special

One of the more innovative ways of making a house more pleasant to live in would be to make it look more like a beachside villa. Bright colours and plenty of light can give you the feeling that you are in a rental home in Turkey, Spain or the Greek islands. This will put a smile on the face of every member of the family in no time.

You just can’t have too many ornaments

On every shelf in the home, whether it’s in the loo, in the kitchen or in the lounge, you will no doubt have a number of ornaments, each of which will have its own special place in your heart. There are times when you may feel that less is more, but this is surely not one of them. Load up the shelves and enjoy the view!
