I have been very naughty and I still haven’t registered with a dentist since we moved to Yorkshire. Our check up was due last month and it made me realise that we hadn’t even registered.

Luckily pregnancy isn’t affecting my gums like it did when I was pregnant with Bob! The last time I was pregnant my gums used to bleed all the time. Some mornings I would wake up with a mouthful of blood. It was awful.

This time I have escaped this awful symptom but I am having nosebleeds instead. It’s a good job pregnancy is worth it!

I do need to register soon as Bob needs a check up and I know that pregnancy can cause dental problems.

I used to go to the dentist religiously. I think that is because old habits die hard and my mum used to make me go. When I left home it became trickier but I always managed to find a new dentist and kept almost regular appointments.

I often wish that I had listened to my dentist when I was younger. I had a brace on my bottom teeth for a while but it was one that you could take out. I never wore it and when I went back to see my dentist he told me off. I went back two weeks later and it was a Locum dentist and he saw that I had been ‘wearing’ it for a while so he said that I didn’t need to wear it anymore.

I thought that I had won but I now know that I hadn’t. My teeth are still crooked and if I had just done as I was told they wouldn’t be. I often wonder about getting braces as an adult. You can even get invisible braces but I know that teeth are much harder to move when you are an adult and it wouldn’t be an easy job.

I guess I will just have to embrace my crooked smile.
