Since Bob started school I have see her in her uniform more than anything else. She is not a fan of getting changed when she gets home so she usually wears her school uniform until bathtime. The only time she wears her ‘own clothes’ is at the weekend or in the school holidays.

I like Bob’s school uniform. I love the colour grey and I have found some gorgeous pinafore dresses in George. They are very classic looking and I think that Bob looks lovely in them! When I went to buy her some new uniform over the summer I ended up buying the same dresses in a bigger size as I preferred them to all of the others. Hopefully George will continue to sell them until Bob leaves primary school!

Lovely School Uniform

I have been thinking about uniforms recently and what they are used for. I think school uniforms make sense. They stop children being singled out for the clothes that they wear. They also make them easy to spot when you are on a school trip.

I used to work at a hospital nursery and we wore a uniform. I hated the trousers as they were the same style that the medical professionals used to wear, which wasn’t really necessary in the nursery. The t shirts and jumpers were nice and it saved getting paint, play dough and who knows what else on your own clothes. It also made getting ready in a morning much easier.

When I started working in a primary school we didn’t wear a uniform. There were certain rules though. You always had to look smart and Jeans weren’t allowed. I had certain clothes that I bought and wore for work so, in a way, it was like wearing a uniform. I used to enjoy getting changed into my jeans at the end of the day. I felt much more comfortable and more like myself again.

Now that I work from home there is no need for a uniform. I wear what I want when I want and, if I didn’t have the school run to do, I would probably choose to work in pyjamas.

Uniforms have a time and a place and can be useful. Our kids wear what their school tells them. In time, a few of us will have jobs that require certain clothes while some wear printed t-shirts as a uniform, or perhaps to promote charitable causes on the street.

This infographic deconstructs the uniforms that are all around us. The sense of belonging that they talk about is another great reason why uniforms work in schools. I had no idea how the colour of uniforms affect the way they are perceived. I found this very interesting so I thought that I would share it with you.

why we have a uniform

That looks very similar to the uniform that I have when I was little. I like the grey too.

I like uniforms, especially for school children, I used to work in banking and we had to wear a uniform and although there was a huge choice we could choose what we wanted so we did not all wear the same. It also saves on your own clothes x

I think there is a lot of truth to the fact that the wearing of uniforms in schools helps cut down on the singling out of children for looking different because of the clothing that they wear. I think it also cuts down on distractions as everyone is wearing the same, and no one is focused on who is wearing the latest fashion.

I wasn’t a fan of uniform, especially in primary school. They used to make us girls wear these stupid check dresses in the summer. I used to hate wearing them, I wanted to wear shorts and polo top like the boys. It was really petty they wouldn’t let us girls wear shorts

Although I never wore a uniform in school, I do like the idea to put everyone on the same playing field. Your little one looks adorable in it!

Aww she is too cute, they grow up so quickly and when they’re in their uniforms they look so much more grown up!

I used to hate school uniforms as a kid but now I think it is a good idea. Before I started buying my own clothing when I was 16 I would get teased on inset days for my fashion sense and now look at me.

I used to hate my uniform at my high school but then when we had non uniform days I didn’t have all of the designer clothing the other girls had and was left out.I used to buy my own outfits when I was old enough just for non uniform days.I love the fact children have uniforms now but there are still children who get treated differently depending on whether they have the uniform from a store or with the school logo printed on bought from the school my son has both but he’s too little to notice what the older children are saying to each other really as he hardly sees them.

That sounds horrible! My daughter wouldn’t wear the official school cardigan as she prefers the light knit one to the sweatshirt material. Many of the girls wear those. I will be aware of this when my son starts school. Children can be mean sometimes. x

I have to wear smart clothing for work which is pretty much a uniform as I have clothes I wear to work that I’d never wear out. Your little ones school uniform is adorable x

That dress looks super cute on her. I like uniforms too, like you said they stop children from being singled out and thats one less thing to be bullied about these days! At work we all have uniforms and it helps visitors to know who is who so as to avoid the awkward do you work here question
