Spring is a great time to get the camera out to make the most of possibly the most photogenic season. But too often these days images get stuck on memory cards and cannot be enjoyed by anyone other than the camera owner. Make this the time when your images ‘spring’ (geddit?!) from your camera to people’s attention. Here are some tips on how to make use of your spring pics this year.

This is an obvious one but very often the people who really should share their pictures hide their light under a bushel and those who do not have a lot to offer in the way of photographic talent share more than is necessary such as badly lit selfies of the same facial expression. Use site which celebrategood photography and art such as Instagram, Flickr or Deviant Art.

Print onto Canvas

There are various websites which allow you to blow up and print your photographs. This is a great way to decorate your home with unique, original art. However, ensure you check the website’s feedback before you make a purchase as canvases and the quality of the print can vary from site to site. You could even sell your prints if you begin to market yourself.

Personalised Products

Websites such as Zippi sell a range of products which can be personalised by being printed with your images. You will be able to get your pictures on mugs, key rings, coasters and mobille phone cases. Never again will you get someone stealing your work mug (or if they do you’ll know about it), getting your phone mixed up or pick up the wrong keys. This website also gives you the chance to join their community of artists so others can order your designs.

Recreate Photos as Artwork

Why not try your arm at another discipline? You could try making a watercolour replica of your image, a pencil sketch or even a collage representation. Having this piece hung next to original photo could be a cool way to decorate a wall in your home.

Build an Online Portfolio

There have never been more opportunities for photographers to get their images seen online. Sites like the aforementioned Flickr provide an easy way to display your images and help you network withother amateur photographers. Set up your own spring portfolio so people who are looking specifically for such pictures can easily access them.

The key message here is to put as much work in to getting your pictures out there as you do taking the images themselves. There is a thriving photography community online with whom you can share experiences and tips. All kinds of opportunities can arise from plugging into such networks.
