We have been potty training Bob for just over a week now and, after a rocky patch involving a scary potty, she has taken to it really well! We have still got a way to go especially when Bob is having too much fun but she is getting the hang off it.
I have been writing a potty diary at the end of each day as it has helped me to process the craziness of our day. I am going to share them with you over the next few weeks.
I am going to share everything! The ups and the downs, the celebrations and the sobs, the number ones and the number twos. It might be a good idea to avoid this blog whilst eating for the next few weeks. 🙂
Our Potty Training Prologue
Working in a nursery has given me some good training when it comes to Bob. Before she came along I was an expert at changing a nappy and I knew so many songs. This still didn’t prepare me for parenthood! Taking care of many babies seemed easier than being Bob’s mummy.
It did give me lots of guidelines though. At nursery most of the children potty trained between the ages of 2 & 3. This gave me a good idea of when Bob would be ready.
We have had a potty in the bathroom for a while as it is also a step which Bob uses to clean her teeth. A few weeks ago I started to plant a few potty training seeds. I told Bob that, if she wanted to, she could wee on the potty instead of in her nappy. I didn’t push her as I knew there was no rush but I did mention that once she started weeing on the potty we could go and buy some big girls Peppa Pig pants.
Over the next couple of weeks I occasionally asked her if she would like to wee on her potty. She either said yes, sat down for a while and then jumped up shouting, ‘Finished,’ or she would sit down for a second and then say, ‘No way, thank you.’ I wasn’t worried. I knew that she would do it in her own time and as she was only just 2 I knew I had months before it became a problem.
One night as I was going to sleep it dawned on me that potty training in summer, when Bob was running around practically naked, would be much easier than when it was colder and she was wearing tights. I decided that the next morning I would just see what happened.
To be continued.

I’ll be following your every word. CK, apart from one week of interest, has absolutely refused to go near his potty. He has a big op coming up in Oct so I’m currently torn whether to push it now or wait until afterwards. He’ll be three in a couple of months so already feels a little late.
