Bob’s writing is coming on really well! She can write her name and she can write Sally’s name with a little help.

When I was asked if we would like to review the new Penpals At Home series from Cambridge University Press I was interested to see if Bob enjoyed them and the teacher in me was curious to see what they were like.

The books are wipeable so they can be used over and over again. I found it odd that the books didn’t come with a pen but when I contacted them to ask what kind of pen I should use they told me that any washable felt tip pen would work. This was great to know as Bob has other reusable books and we have misplaced the pens.

We were sent 2 books. One to practise early pencil control and one to work on letter formation.

Penpals-At-Home

Bob wanted to do the letter formation book first as it had an octopus on the front. I tried to tell her that we should work on the pencil control book (Getting Ready For Handwriting) first but she was having none of it.

Letter-Formation

She enjoyed the book and was interested in writing the letters but she got bored easily. I think this book would be more suitable for Bob in another year.

When I managed to convince her to try the other book she loved it! The pencil control book was full of child friendly images from princesses and castles to the seaside.

Mark-Making

They have made mark making lots of fun and although Bob was making relevant marks she thought she was playing.

We will use this book again and I am looking forward to trying out the letter formation book again when Bob is older.

Disclaimer : We were sent the books free of charge for the purpose of this review but all photographs and opinions are my own.

Dylan is finally starting to show an interest in writing so I might look at the pen control one for him
