I am obsessed with Annie Sloane chalk paint at the moment. Every time I look at a piece of furniture I see it in a different colour.

We have some acacia wood furniture in our living that my husband will not let me replace. It cost quite a bit and it is good quality. I loved it when we first bought it but the orange colour is hard to match things with I have recently bought new furniture and I chose grey chairs and a settee and I accessorised with a rug and a footstool that I reupholstered!

The acacia wood furniture didn’t look right so I decided to buy some chalk paint and hope for the best. I was a bit worried about how easy it would be to to paint and wax furniture but after my first attempt went well I am now addicted.

I have already painted my television unit (I just need to add some handles) and a table that I keep my record player on. I found the table in an antique shop. It had already been painted white but I knew that could be changed. I decide to paint it in Annie Sloane’s French Linen. It was really easy to do. Bob helped me and it was a lovely project to do together. I love the finished result!

I decided to write a little tutorial of how we painted our furniture. I thought this may help people to see how easy it is.

You will need:
Annie Sloane Chalk Paint in your chosen colour.
Annie Sloane Wax
Water
A Mixing Bowl
A Wooden Spoon
Paint Brushes

You obviously need paint brushes to apply the paint but they are also good for applying the wax. This 19 Piece Brush Set from Engelbert Strauss would be perfect! There is enough variety in the set to do everything you need. The round brushes would be great for applying the wax! I used a cloth last time but it became soggy quickly. The shop where I bought my paint from sold rounded wax brushes but they were very expensive. I think these would be a great alternative.

Method
1) Pour some paint into a bowl and mix it with water until it is the consistency of double cream.
2) Apply the paint to your furniture. Don’t worry about covering every little bit. It is better to brush it on quickly and give it a few coats. Make sure you allow your first coat to dry completely before applying your next one.
3) When you are happy with the colour and your paint is dry, apply the wax. You can use a cloth or a rounded brush to rub it in.
4) Admire your gorgeous furniture and decide which piece you are going to paint next.

It’s that easy! I don’t distress my furniture as I can’t bring myself to attack my newly painted piece with sandpaper. If you like the distressed look and you are braver than me you could try this method.

Chalk paint can transform a piece of tired furniture!
