One of my best friends gets married on Saturday. I am very excited and I can’t wait to share their special day with them.

My husband kept telling me that he didn’t think I’d make it to the wedding with it being so close to my due date but so far so good. Our new arrival has stayed put and my bridesmaid dress still fits!

A couple of weeks ago we went away for my friend’s hen weekend. She didn’t really want a hen party but we convinced her to have one, promising that it wouldn’t be stereotypical at all. There was no sign of strippers or L plates throughout the whole weekend!

We stayed at a lovely little pub in the Derbyshire Dales called the Square & Compass. The pub had a campsite across the road and a little B&B attached for those of us that were pregnant or liked their home comforts too much.

We arrived on the Friday evening and we planned to go pottery painting and for afternoon tea on the Saturday. We then arranged some sports day style games for the Saturday evening. We didn’t really plan anything for Friday night as we knew people would be travelling from various places and everyone would be arriving at different times.

We had a nice meal in the pub and literally drank them out of wine. I had nothing to do with this, obviously! The landlord, Alan, was lovely and he decided to provide some entertainment for us. He got out his electronic bingo machine and asked us if we would like to play. I hadn’t played bingo in a while so I was quite excited.

It was fun, especially listening to Alan’s bizarre bingo calls. It wasn’t as exciting as the bingo that I have played in the past though as we were the only ones playing. Whoever won the game then bought the tickets for the next game with their winnings. This was not as exciting as when there is money to be won. Especially big prizes!

It reminded me of when Bob was born. I used to love playing fun bingo games online to pass the sleepless nights. I also enjoyed talking to other new mums/people who struggled to sleep in the chat rooms. It made me feel like I wasn’t alone. It reminded me of something that I can do to while away the early hours when our new addition arrives later this month. Although this one is going to sleep very well. I have faith!

The rest of the weekend was so much fun! We had a lovely day in Bakewell on the Saturday. Pottery painting was fun and the afternoon tea was amazing!

We then put a love lock on the bridge to celebrate our friend’s marriage. I haven’t been to Bakewell for several years and this wasn’t heard of the last time I visited. I found this article about the first love locks that appeared on the bridge in 2012. 3 years later the bridge is full! It was wonderful to see so many love locks, celebrating love and relationships!

When we returned to the campsite we played the games we had planned. I was the adjudicator as I didn’t think it was safe for me to attempt the 3 legged race and I knew I wouldn’t fit in the sack.

A wonderful weekend was had by all. It was wonderful to meet everyone who my friend loves and I can’t wait to see them all again at the wedding.
